About Us and Our Classes
Hazel
With my Granny (on my Dad’s side) and my Mum being Dance Teachers there was no surprise I was dancing from an early age and fell in love with Ballroom & Latin Dancing. I loved the dance dresses, getting ready for competitions, the music and the amazing feeling I got when I danced.
My Granny was a well known face of the Ballroom Dance world and often adjudicated at Blackpool Dance Festivals. My Mum still runs the Killip School of Dance, in the Isle of Man where I grew up and she now also is an adjudicator in Blackpool competitions. I really enjoy going to the big dance festivals in Blackpool and watching the incredible dancing, especially the Junior Dance Festival where the talent can be phenomenal!
The upbeat, fun, cheeky, Cha Cha Cha is my favourite Latin dance whilst the Waltz is my favourite Ballroom dance, I love both the elegance and the movement across the floor. Having tried various genres of dance Ballroom & Latin Dance this is truly where my heart lies.
Meeting my husband Nick gave me the opportunity for a much needed career change and my passion for dance was ignited once again! Over 8 years ago I started a Dance Fitness business, holding a licence for the ‘ChaSamba’ Fitness brand which is where I met Nikki who came along to my first dance class! Since then our friendship and now business relationship has flourished.
I am very fortunate to be in a position where my job is my passion and I can share that with my Dance Movers! It means a lot to me when I see the smiles on people’s faces, the enjoyment they get from the class and the improvement in people’s fitness and wellbeing.
Nick often says to me when I return from my classes “good class?” to which I reply, “not just good, it was brilliant!” because I truly enjoy every minute, I love seeing my dance movers at every class, having a chat, a smile, a giggle and exercising whilst having fun!
Nikki
Dancing is imprinted in my heart and in my soul, being brought up in a dancing family, both my parents and my Grandparents were Ballroom Dancers. My Mum in her early years won many jive competitions dancing with my Grandad. She was also a tap dancer and her uncle was a dance teacher and owned the Billy Martin School of Dance in Liverpool.
For me my story of dance started when my Auntie gave me a book all about Ballet, I was about 4 years old, and it was the best present ever, I instantly fell in love with the beautiful art form of dance. I started ballet that year and trained right through to my late teens.
The Ballet training lead me to a keen interest in fitness and around the age of 21 I moved to Saudi Arabia, there I met a Yoga teacher who then taught me all aspects of Yoga. I have since drawn on this knowledge to create the ‘Stretch & Strengthen’ sections that we incorporate in our Majestic Movers & Seated Movers classes.
Since meeting Hazel, and our decision to create Dance Movers together, I get a fabulous feeling doing something I love everyday. Seeing the improvement in people during our classes, in fitness, in confidence, in balance and most of all the smiles! Such a privilege to witness and share the joy.
Corporate Organisations
Dance Movers are also available for corporate events and organisations. We have held classes for the Cheshire Autism Practical Support group in Chester & Northwich.
The Social Side
The social side of our classes is also very important. For us a hobby is also about meeting people and forming new friendships, not just the activity. All our classes are friendly and welcoming and it is lovely to see friendships form as a result of coming to Dance Movers classes.
Social isolation can be a big issue for people so at all our classes we encourage some chat and social interaction. Whether it be a quick chat in-between dances or a chat with a cup of tea at our Majestic and Seated Movers classes.
No Judgement
At Dance Movers we don’t take ourselves too seriously, we exercise in a fun and welcoming environment. There is no feeling of intimidation, we are not a group of 'Gym Bunnies’, we are everyday folk just getting and staying fit in a fun way!
We don’t like to feel that exercise is a chore! When exercise is fun then you enjoy doing it and you don’t need a lot of motivation to get off the sofa. Come along and see for yourself with a Free Taster class.
To quote Ruth from our Helsby Cha Cha Movers
“Fancy moving a bit more, meeting people and having a laugh? This is the group for you! No previous dance experience or skill necessary….if you can smile, have fun and laugh (at yourself) then come along!"
What Do I Need To Know
Health & Safety
It is important to us that you are safe and well in class. Listen to your body, take the class at your own pace, nobody is judging you. Never be afraid to take a break, get some water and rest if you feel you need to.
What to Wear
Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move in, leggings and t-shirt or active wear. We recommend wearing layers that you can remove easily with a cool under-layer. A zipped hoodie is ideal to start off the class and can be easily be removed once you have warmed up.
Shoes
You can wear a light trainer or we can recommend Dance Sneakers, they have cushioned heels, good ankle support and have a smooth sole with a spinning spot that helps with certain dance moves.
We recommend the Bloch make, as the quality is fantastic.
